Westmeath has a population of approximately 90,000 and the County Council has responsibility for delivery of a wide range of services to a diverse customer base. The Council has a workforce of 554 and a revenue budget of €90.5m for 2022. An opportunity currently exists in Westmeath County Council for the role of Senior Architect. Reporting to the Director of Services, or such designated person(s) who may be assigned from time to time, the Senior Architect will be responsible for the delivery of Capital Housing Programmes and Projects in the County. The Senior Architect will lead a multi-disciplinary team within Westmeath County Council’s Housing Capital section to deliver on the social and affordable programme targets. There will also be a wider requirement to provide advice to the County Council on architectural matters. The successful candidates will: • Hold a professional qualification in Architecture that is prescribed, under the Building Control Act 2007, or a qualification in Architecture that is equivalent to a qualification so prescribed; • Be eligible for registration as an Architect under the Building Control Act 2007 without requiring further assessment. Any appointment will be subject to registration under the Act; • Have at least seven years’ satisfactory relevant experience of architectural work including a period of not less than five years’ satisfactory experience in a responsible capacity as team leader of multi-disciplinary design teams and the administration of construction contracts as Employer’s Agent or equivalent role; • Have knowledge of the principles of Urban Design and planning policy and practice; • Have satisfactory experience at strategic management level; • Have satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
